In line with the government's policy in the field of higher education which provides an expansion of the mandate for the Teacher Training Institution (LPTK) which must be able to follow the demands of change and anticipate all possibilities in the future, IKIP Bandung was changed to the Indonesian Education University through Presidential Decree No. 124 of 1999 dated October 7, 1999. The expansion of the mandate given to LPTK after it changed into a university included the authority to open non-teaching study programs. Therefore, the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature Education, which is now the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature Education, carried out the policy of expanding the mandate so that the Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program was established on August 18, 1999, in accordance with the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia number 366/DIKTI/Kep/1999.
