The French Language Education Study Program was established de facto in February 1975 with the name of the French Language Education Department which is located in the Faculty of Literature and Arts Teacher Training, Bandung Teacher Training and Education Institute (IKIP). The establishment of this study program was initiated by a native French speaker, Monsieur Dominique DANARD which was welcomed by the faculty leaders and the leaders of the institute at that time approved the opening of the study program.

Since its establishment, the French Language Education Study Program has produced many quality graduates who work as teachers or lecturers in educational institutions spread across several cities in Indonesia.

Thanks to its services and quality, the French Language Education Study Program is currently accredited by BAN-PT with an "A" predicate based on SK BAN-PT No. 1546/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/VIII/2016. In addition, this study program also implements an international standard quality management system (ISO 9001:2008 certified by World Quality Assurance (WQA) in 2010-2013 and United Register of System (URS) in 2013-2017, and ISO 9001:2015 from United Register of System (URS) since 2017. This condition has led this study program to obtain international accreditation with the Premier University predicate from the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges, and Universities (ASIC) with certificate number: AS29672/0617.
