Rector of Indonesian Education University Encourages PTN to Form Indonesian Language and Arts Faculty Forum

The Indonesian Language and Arts Faculty Forum was held again, and this time the Faculty of Language and Arts, State University of Medan was the host. The event, which was held at the Niagara Parapat Hotel on July 11-13, 2024, was attended by 14 leaders of the Faculty of Language and Arts, Faculty of Language and Literature, and Faculty of Art and Design from 12 teacher training institutions (LPTK) throughout Indonesia, including the Faculty of Language and Literature Education, Indonesian University of Education.

A total of 12 universities that sent representatives to attend the FBS Indonesia Forum are the Indonesian Education University (UPI), Medan State University (Unimed), Semarang State University (Unnes), Jakarta State University (UNJ), Gorontalo State University (UNG), Malang State University (UM), Padang State University (UNP), Ganesha Education University (Undiksha), Manado State University (Unima), Makassar State University (UNM), Yogyakarta State University (UNY), and Surabaya State University (Unesa). This event was officially opened by the Chancellor of Medan State University, Prof. Dr. Baharuddin, M.Pd., and this activity is a continuation of the Focused Discussion Forum activity which was held online on June 25, 2024.

The FBSI Forum meeting presented two keynote speakers who are very experienced in the development of LPTK institutions, namely Prof. Dr. Syawal Gultom, M.Pd, Chairman of the Senate of Medan State University who discussed the Development of LPTK and Prof. Dr. M. Solehuddin, M.Pd., MA, Rector of the Indonesian Education University who has experience as a PTN-BH and has succeeded in making the Indonesian Education University one of the prestigious campuses in Indonesia.

On this occasion, the Chancellor of the Indonesian Education University delivered material encouraging PTNs that are members of this forum to immediately move towards PTN-BH. He emphasized that this change will spur PTN leaders to further develop independent creativity in order to obtain maximum funding. Thus, it will be easier to develop institutions, provide facilities and infrastructure to support the academic process, provide maximum funds for research and lecturer service, and improve the welfare of lecturers and education personnel.

Dean of the Faculty of Language and Literature Education, Indonesian Education University, Prof. Dr. Tri Indri Hardini, M.Pd. who was present at that time together with the Vice Deans, Heads of Study Programs, Secretaries of Study Programs, Head of Quality Control Unit and Head of Language and Literature Laboratory. Microteaching stated that this meeting provided reinforcement for study programs at FPBS, especially in efforts to implement the strengthening of cooperation in the field of the tridharma of higher education in the field of language towards a world-class university. This event was also equipped with the signing of a cooperation agreement between faculties. The signing of this cooperation document is very important because it affects the acquisition of Key Performance Indicators (IKU) for each Study Program, Faculty, and University present.

The meeting also discussed a number of priority programs related to academic development, cooperation, research, increasing the capacity of lecturers and students, and various aspects that can be explored to accelerate the achievement of world-class LPTK. With the spirit of togetherness and collaboration, it is hoped that this forum can be a catalyst for change and improving the quality of higher education in Indonesia.

Interestingly, in the midst of such a busy activity, the participants were still able to enjoy the beauty of Lake Toba and Samosir Island. The stunning view can be seen from the Niagara Hotel or directly enjoyed from the boat provided by the committee. This made the participants very satisfied and enjoyed the activity. "This trip was extraordinary, the scenery is very beautiful, showing the hills and the expanse of Lake Toba which is very enchanting," said one of the participants from the Indonesian Education University.

This activity will be held again in the next two years, after it was agreed that the next Indonesian Language and Arts Forum will be held in 2026 at Semarang State University. See you and best wishes to all of us.
