Bandung, 12 March 2026. Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia has once again produced a new doctoral graduate who contributes to the development of character education in higher education. Ahmad Fuadin successfully earned his doctoral degree after defending his dissertation in an open doctoral promotion session at the Study Program of General Education and Character, School of Postgraduate Studies, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.
Through his dissertation titled “Development of a Project Based Learning Model Based on the Principle of Consideration for Strengthening Students’ Language Politeness Character,” Ahmad Fuadin developed a learning model that integrates a Project Based Learning approach with the principle of consideration to build students’ language politeness character.
In his academic accountability statement, the dissertation supervisor Prof. Dr. Syihabuddin, M.Pd., noted that the candidate is an academic with a strong commitment to developing scholarship in the field of language education. During his doctoral studies, Ahmad Fuadin was considered to have demonstrated high consistency in conducting scientific studies through research and academic publications.
According to the supervisory team, the research was motivated by observations showing that language politeness practices among students in various academic communication contexts still face challenges. In higher-education language learning practices, strengthening language politeness character is considered not yet systematically integrated into the learning process.
Through this development research, Ahmad Fuadin designed a project-based learning model combined with the principle of consideration, namely empathy, respect for others, and moral awareness in academic communication practices. The model positions students as active subjects in the learning process while encouraging the formation of reflective and responsible attitudes in language use.
In terms of novelty, this research contributes through the integration of the Project Based Learning approach with the Principle of Consideration as a foundation for strengthening students’ language politeness character. The developed model not only emphasizes the mastery of linguistic competencies but also integrates dimensions of communication ethics and character formation in the learning process in higher education.
The research was carried out through systematic research and development stages, starting from needs analysis, conceptual model design, development of learning tools, trials of model implementation, to evaluating the effectiveness of the resulting model.
The supervisory team—consisting of Prof. Dr. Syihabuddin, M.Pd. as supervisor, Prof. Dr. Mupid Hidayat, M.A. as co-supervisor, and Prof. Dr. Yeti Mulyati, M.Pd. as a member—stated that the dissertation is academically accountable in the open doctoral promotion session.
Ahmad Fuadin’s successful attainment of a doctoral degree is expected to contribute to the development of language learning that is not only oriented toward cognitive aspects, but also toward the formation of students’ character and communication ethics in higher education.
