International Seminar of Indonesian Language and Literature at FPBS UPI 2026

Bandung, 10 June 2026 - The Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program of the Faculty of Language and Literature Education (FPBS), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), held the International Seminar on Indonesian Language and Literature under the theme “Reflections on Indonesian Language and Literature in a Global Perspective” on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. The event served as an international academic forum that brought together experts, researchers, academics, lecturers, and students to reflect on the position, development, and challenges of Indonesian language and literature within global scholarly discourse.

Indonesian language and literature function not only as markers of national identity, but also as evolving fields of study that continue to attract the attention of the international academic community. Through this seminar, the Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program at FPBS UPI created a space for scholarly exchange between local and global perspectives in order to strengthen the position of Indonesian language and literature at the international level.

The seminar was organized in response to the growing awareness that, in an era of globalization and multiculturalism, the Indonesian language must continue to be studied, developed, and introduced to the wider world. This forum is expected to generate fresh ideas that can reinforce the place of Indonesian language and literature as part of global civilization while also addressing the demands of a changing era.

The main objectives of the event included reflecting on the position and development of Indonesian language and literature from a global perspective, building intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue between Indonesian and international academics, encouraging innovative studies in the field, and strengthening collaborative networks among institutions in advancing Indonesian language and literature.

The seminar featured speakers from UPI as well as international partner institutions. Representatives from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia included Memen Durachman, S.S., M.Hum. and Prof. Dr. Aceng Ruhendi Saifullah, M.Hum. The international speakers included Chae In Sook from the Korea-Indonesia Research Institute, South Korea, and Berthold Damshäuser from the University of Bonn, Germany.

The program consisted of two presentation sessions, a discussion and question-and-answer session, a poetry musicalization performance by Agus R. Sarjono, and the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the speakers and moderators. The seminar was conducted both onsite and online via Zoom Meeting, allowing participants from various regions and countries to take part.

This international seminar is expected to become an important momentum for strengthening Indonesian linguistic and literary studies at the global level. All parties involved, including the organizing committee, speakers, moderators, and participants, are expected to make meaningful contributions to the advancement of knowledge and Indonesian culture.
