Bandung, 8 January 2026 - Division II of BEM Hima Pensatrada FPBS UPI held a work review session as the culmination of the Turus Subdivision education and training (diklat) program at Ajip Rosidi Library, Bandung, on Thursday (8/1/2026). This activity marked the end of the Turus Training series, which aims to foster Sundanese students’ enthusiasm for writing.
The Turus Training was attended by 26 participants from the 2025 cohort, known as the “Aksanala cohort. The training series has been carried out since 22 December 2025 and took place over five meetings at a frequency of once per week. Throughout the program, participants received materials on literary and journalistic writing as a foundation to strengthen students’ creative and critical capacities.
In its implementation, the committee invited several speakers who are Turus alumni and have been involved in the writing world, with some of them having published books.
The presence of alumni speakers aims to ensure that our bonds of friendship do not break, while also building the spirit of new members to keep creating, said Afta Al-Insani F., as the person in charge of the Turus Training.
The work review session served as a space for evaluation as well as appreciation of participants’ creative processes. The works produced were not only literary works, such as poems and short stories, but also journalistic works in the form of reviews and news articles. Thus, the participants’ confirmation was not merely an inauguration of new members, but also a form of accountability for the learning process throughout the training.
I didn’t expect that the works we created would truly be guided and appreciated by the committee, said Haidar Ali D., one of the Turus Training participants.
In line with the training’s objectives, participants’ works do not stop within the organization’s internal space. The committee plans to submit the best works to Sundanese-language media outlets, such as Mangle and Galura, as an initial step to introduce students’ works to the public sphere.
Also giving appreciation, the Student Affairs Advisor of Hima Pensatrada FPBS UPI, Ade Sutisna, considered the Turus Training as a strategic space for fostering students’ creativity and intellectual responsibility.
Turus Training is an important vehicle to train sensitivity of thought, sensitivity of feeling, and students’ intellectual responsibility. Through this activity, students not only learn to write, but also learn to preserve Sundanese culture through their works, he said.
He hopes similar activities can continue sustainably and encourage students to be more courageous in bringing ideas and works into the public sphere.
Students need to be encouraged not to stop at the training process, but to dare to present their works as academic and cultural contributions, he added.
Choosing Ajip Rosidi Library as the venue also carried its own meaning. According to Windiana Nurhalisa, one of the training committee members, the location was chosen not only because it is strategically located, but also because of the historical and cultural values it embodies.
Ajip Rosidi Library preserves a long trace of Sundanese culture. This place is a symbol of Ajip Rosidi’s struggle as a figure who dedicated his life to upholding Sundanese values, she explained.
Through Turus Training, students are not only facilitated with a space to create, but also encouraged to be brave in positioning writing as an intellectual and cultural medium, as well as part of the regeneration of Sundanese writers within the campus environment.
