History
1964: Official Recognition of FKSS under IKIP
FKSS was officially recognized through the Minister of PTIP Decree No. 128 of 1964 following the merger of FKIP UNPAD and the Teachers’ Training Institute.
1983: FKSS Became FPBS
Based on the Rector’s Decree of IKIP Bandung No. 302/PT.25.R/E/1983, FKSS was transformed into the Faculty of Language and Arts Education (FPBS).
1999: Establishment of the English Language and Literature Study Program
Inaugurated through the Directorate General of Higher Education Decree No. 386/DIKTI/Kep/1999 as part of IKIP’s mandate expansion into UPI.
2022: Excellent Accreditation
The program received an “Excellent” accreditation based on BAN-PT Decree No. 2305/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/IV/2022 dated April 12, 2022.

UPI Ranked in the World’s Top 300 for English Language & Literature and Linguistics in QS Ranking
Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) has once again achieved a remarkable milestone by earning a prestigious position in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025. This year, two of UPI’s flagship fields of study, English Language & Literature and Linguistics, have successfully entered the world’s top 300.
In the ranking released in March 2025, UPI’s English Language & Literature program ranked 3rd in Indonesia, 66th in Asia, and placed within the 251–300 range worldwide. Meanwhile, the field of Linguistics ranked 4th in Indonesia, 88th in Asia, and achieved a position within the 301–350 range globally.
UPI Rector (2020–2025), M. Solehudin, stated that this achievement marks a significant milestone in gaining international recognition for the academic quality and research continuously developed by UPI. "This accomplishment proves that UPI can compete globally and is among the best universities in education, particularly in English Language & Literature and Linguistics," he said.
Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs (2020–2025), Prof. Didi Sukyadi, explained that the QS World University Rankings are based on five main indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, H-index citations, and international research network. "The high scores achieved by UPI in these indicators reflect the strong quality of research and the high relevance of its education at the global level," added Prof. Didi.
This achievement certainly serves as motivation for the entire UPI academic community to continue improving the quality of education and research, as well as strengthening the university’s international reputation in the future.
National Accreditation (BAN-PT)
Based on the BAN-PT Decree No. 2305/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/IV/2022, the Bachelor's Program in English Language and Literature, at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Bandung City, has been granted the rating of Excellent Accreditation.
This accreditation certificate is valid from April 12, 2022 to April 12, 2027.
International Accreditation (ACQUIN)
The English Language and Literature (Bachelor's Degree) Program has received international accreditation from ACQUIN (Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute).

Alumni Career Tracking (Tracer Study) of the English Language and Literature Study Program
The data below presents the analysis results from questionnaires completed by 119 alumni of the English Language and Literature Study Program at UPI who graduated between 2018–2020.
Employment Status
Among the alumni respondents, 97% reported being employed, while 3% reported being unemployed or not currently working.
Waiting Time to Get the First Job
The majority of alumni secured a job within less than four months after graduation.
Sources of Job Information
Job information was most commonly obtained from acquaintances or personal networks (45%), electronic/social media (39%), and lecturers/study programs/faculty (9%).
Relevance of Education to Job
A total of 51% of alumni stated their job was quite relevant, 39% stated it was highly relevant, and only 10% stated it was less relevant to their English Language and Literature educational background.
Fields of Employment
Graduates are mostly employed as educators, public service workers, and translators, with broad career prospects across various sectors.
The data above indicates that graduates of the English Language and Literature Study Program have strong opportunities to compete in the professional world.
