BANDUNG, 17 July 2026 - The English Education Study Program, Faculty of Language and Literature Education (FPBS), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), successfully held a community service program titled “Pedagogy of Empathy Training for English Teachers to Address the Challenges Faced by Gen Z Students with Psychological Difficulties.” The activity was conducted in person on Thursday, 16 July 2026, in the Meeting Room of Building C, FPBS UPI, and was attended by English teachers from junior high schools, senior high schools, and vocational schools.
The event was officially opened by the Head of the English Education Study Program, Prof. Emi Emilia, M.Ed., Ph.D. As the main speaker, the program featured Charyna Ayu Rizkyanti, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology at UIII, who delivered an in-depth workshop on how empathy can help teachers listen without judgment, appreciate multiple perspectives, and build meaningful relationships so that every student feels acknowledged, heard, and respected in the classroom.
This community service program was organized by Dr. Lulu Laela Amalia, S.S., M.Pd., Prof. Gin Gin Gustine, M.Pd., Ph.D., and Nida Mujahidah Fathimah, M.Pd., with full support from postgraduate students in the English Education master’s and doctoral programs, namely Nicke Yunita Moecharam, S.Pd., M.A., Anesti Budi Ermerawati, S.Pd., M.Hum., and Muh. Hamka D, S.S.
This activity represents a concrete implementation of UPI’s vision and mission to become a pioneering and outstanding educational institution that provides practical solutions to social challenges. By emphasizing that empathy is a bridge to humane connection, the program directly contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the creation of inclusive learning environments, SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by prioritizing the emotional well-being of younger generations, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strategic cross-institutional collaboration between UPI and UIII for the advancement of national education quality.
