18 August 1999 – Program Establishment
The Indonesian Language and Literature Program was established on 18 August 1999 and became part of the Faculty of Language and Literature at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).
2021 – BAN-PT Accreditation
The program achieved an “A” accreditation rating based on BAN-PT Decree No. 13686/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-PPJ/S/XII/2021.
The program defines graduate profiles aimed at becoming research assistants, practitioners, entrepreneurs, and academics in Indonesian language and literature. To support these profiles, students are equipped with competencies covering attitudes, knowledge, general skills, and specific skills aligned with the demands of the discipline. High interest in this program is reflected in a 1:10 admission selectivity ratio across the SNBP, SNBT, UPI Independent Selection, and Partnership tracks.
Excellence in quality and service in delivering teaching, research, and community engagement in Indonesian language and literature with management that meets international standards.
- Deliver undergraduate education that prepares globally competitive professionals in Indonesian language and literature.
- Conduct high-quality research to advance the field of Indonesian language and literature in innovative and contextual ways.
- Provide professional community service to address national issues, especially those related to language, literature, and culture.
- Internationalize education and research outputs through scholarly publications, joint research, and joint programs with partner institutions at the international level.
- Produce professionals as research assistants and practitioners who master Indonesian language and literature comprehensively.
- Develop and disseminate original, innovative research outputs and creative works in Indonesian language and literature.
- Share knowledge and expert services in Indonesian language and literature through community engagement.
- Build collaboration with institutions domestically and abroad in the field of language and literature.
- Research Assistant: engages in studies on current issues in Indonesian language and literature.
- Practitioner: serves professionally in language and literature as a writer, playwright, literary critic, editor, journalist, broadcaster, or lexicographer at leading institutions.
- Entrepreneur: works in the creative industry by producing and marketing original, innovative works.
- Academic: masters knowledge and skills in language and literature as a foundation for further study.

- Masters foundational concepts, methodologies, and current issues in linguistics and literature, enabling procedural problem-solving.

- Has deep understanding of the creative process in Indonesian language and literature relevant to the Industry 4.0 era.
- Masters up-to-date theories in language and literary studies and the critical analytical techniques needed for quality academic inquiry.

- Applies logical, critical, systematic, and innovative thinking in developing or implementing science and technology while observing humanistic values aligned with the field.
Specific Skills
- Plans, conducts, and reports research in Indonesian language and literature in line with relevant methodologies and academic standards.
- Writes, edits, and delivers creative content across genres and media with attention to language norms, aesthetics, and audience targets.
- Designs, produces, and markets original products in language and literature suited to Indonesia’s socio-cultural context and the creative industry landscape.
- Plans, manages, and develops systematic research roadmaps in language and literature with up-to-date literature analysis.
