JAKARTA, 7 February 2026 – The Japanese Language Education Study Program once again strengthened its position on the international stage. In the prestigious 2nd Hiroshima University Japanese Essay Championship for Indonesians, UPI’s student delegation achieved outstanding victories, announced on Saturday (7/2).
This international-scale competition is a strategic collaboration between Hiroshima University and the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Universitas Darma Persada, the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, and the Association of Japanese Language Education.
Out of a total of 8 students delegated by the study program, five advanced to the final round after intense competition with participants from across Indonesia. The five finalists were:
- Adinda Nur Syaharani
- Lavinna Sherryl Aisha Supriatna
- Handoko Rafli
- Michelle Safana
- Nadia Putri Sonjaya
- Dustin Mochamad Rinaldi
This achievement was further strengthened by the students’ success in reaching the winners’ podium. The award recipients are as follows:
- Adinda Nur Syaharani - 1st Place (Award Trophy from Suzuki Indonesia)
- Lavinna Sherryl Aisha Supriatna - 2nd Place
- Handoko Rafli - 2nd Place
- Michelle Safana - 2nd Place
This achievement did not come only from the students. Academic mentoring expertise was also recognized nationally through the award of Best Student Essay Supervisor Lecturer received by Ms. Dewi Kusrini. Her intensive guidance proved effective in sharpening students’ literacy and analytical skills to international standards.
In addition, the UPI Japanese Language Education Study Program also received special awards for:
- Consistency in participating in global-level essay championships.
- The university that sent the largest number of participants, demonstrating enthusiasm and a healthy competition ecosystem within the study program.
This achievement is the result of collective hard work between students and lecturers. We are committed to continuing to support students in expressing their thoughts through Japanese on the world stage. This victory is expected to motivate all Japanese Language Education students to continue creating and bringing honor to the university in the future.
