About the Program

Arabic Language Education (Bachelor's Degree)

History

The Arabic Language Education Study Program is an academic unit under the Faculty of Language and Literature Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. It is one of the oldest programs at UPI, officially established on 14 March 1964 by education leaders and scholars committed to developing Islamic outreach through Arabic language education.

As a pioneer of Arabic language teaching in Indonesia, the program envisions becoming a center of excellence in professional and ethical Arabic language education and learning. The educational process is delivered through an integrative and contextual approach that equips students with linguistic knowledge and skills while shaping their character as competent, ethical Arabic language educators.

The program offers two levels: undergraduate (S1) and master's (S2), managed in an integrated manner by the head and secretary of the program. In its implementation, the master's program is academically and administratively coordinated with the Graduate School, while the undergraduate program is directly coordinated by the Faculty Dean's Office.

Several flagship programs strengthen the position of the Arabic Language Education Study Program as a leading force in Arabic language education in Indonesia, including:

  1. Qaryah Arabiyyah (QA)
An intensive language immersion program that requires first-year students to live in a dormitory for one year. During the program, students are guided to use Arabic actively in daily life and academic activities, such as Islamic Studies, Istima' al-Akhbar (listening to Arabic news), Qira'at al-Kutub at-Turats (reading classical texts), book translation, pocket dictionary compilation, Quranic recitation improvement and memorization, and Quranic Nahwu taught directly by Sheikh Dr. 'Ali Ma'youf from King Saud University. The QA environment is designed to develop linguistic competence as well as students' cognitive, social, and emotional skills.
  2. IKHFA (Ikhtibar Kafaah Al-'Arabiyyah)
An Arabic proficiency test equivalent to TOEFL, used as an academic prerequisite. For undergraduate students, the minimum score is 500 as a requirement to sit for the final defense, while for master's students the minimum is 550. This program aims to promote high standards of Arabic competence for all students.
