FPBS UPI Holds a Public Lecture on Student Well-being and Mental Health

Bandung, October 9, 2025 - The Faculty of Language and Literature Education (FPBS), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), held a public lecture titled “Optimizing Student Well-being: Academic Achievement and Character Development” on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the FPBS Auditorium, 4th Floor.

The event featured Prof. Dr. Ilfiandra, M.Pd., an expert in educational psychology and character development, as the keynote speaker. It was attended by 153 students onsite and approximately 400 students online via a virtual conference platform. Faculty leaders, lecturers, and administrative staff also participated in the session.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Mohamad Zaka Al Farisi, S.Pd., M.Hum., Vice Dean for Resources and General Affairs of FPBS UPI, emphasized that student well-being is the foundation of academic success and character excellence.

“Students who are physically and mentally well are more capable of developing their potential, thinking critically, and contributing positively to society,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Yulianeta, M.Pd., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance, who moderated the lecture and discussion, highlighted that student well-being is a shared responsibility among individuals, lecturers, and institutions. She stressed the importance of creating an inclusive, healthy learning environment that balances academic achievement and mental health.

In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Ilfiandra, M.Pd. emphasized the urgency of developing holistic student well-being, encompassing physical, mental, social, and spiritual aspects. He explained that optimal well-being not only enhances academic performance but also strengthens character formation and emotional resilience in facing campus life challenges.

This event aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 4 (Quality Education). Through this initiative, FPBS UPI demonstrates its commitment to fostering a healthy, inclusive, and sustainable educational environment - one that values both academic excellence and psychological well-being as integral parts of holistic education.

The lecture represents a tangible step toward cultivating a campus culture that prioritizes mental health, social well-being, and character development, nurturing FPBS UPI students to become resilient, competitive, and well-rounded individuals.
