Yogyakarta, September 25, 2026 — The Arabic Language Education Program (PBA), Faculty of Language and Literature Education (FPBS), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Bandung, participated in the PPPBA National Working Meeting and International Conference held on September 23–25, 2026, at University Hotel Yogyakarta. The event brought together academics and practitioners in Arabic language education to discuss strengthening curricula and Arabic language learning based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
The event began with an opening ceremony on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The ceremony featured remarks by Organizing Committee Chair Dr. Hj. R. Umi Baroroh, M.Ag., PPPBA Chair Prof. Dr. Hanik Mahliatussikah, M.Hum., and Prof. Dr. Ali Abdullah Musa, Chair of the International Council for the Arabic Language, who delivered remarks and formally opened the event.
The conference featured international speakers from several countries, including academics from Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Algeria. Their participation strengthened the international dimension of the event and created opportunities to exchange ideas on developments in the Arabic language, Arabic language education, and study program development.
One of the event’s key agendas was a discussion of Regulation of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Number 39 of 2025 and OBE-based Semester Learning Plans (RPS), presented by Prof. Hanik Mahliatussikah on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The agenda continued with focus group discussions on OBE-based RPS for various areas of Arabic language learning.
The discussions addressed the development of RPS for several courses and educational levels. At the undergraduate level, the discussion covered Maharah Istima’, Maharah Qira’ah, Maharah Kitabah, Maharah Kalam, Nahwu, and Sharaf. The master’s group discussed curriculum development, while the doctoral group discussed the Research Methodology Development course.
For the Arabic Language Education Program at FPBS UPI Bandung, the forum provided an important platform to strengthen curriculum development and learning tools oriented toward learning outcomes. The discussion of RPS focused not only on administrative completeness but also on alignment among learning outcomes, materials, teaching strategies, assessment, and the evolving needs of Arabic language education.
The event culminated on Friday, September 25, 2026, with presentations of the OBE-based RPS focus group results, followed by a plenary session to adopt national recommendations for RPS in Arabic Language Education programs. This agenda formed an important part of the effort to formulate shared recommendations for developing RPS at the national level.
In addition to the academic agenda, the event included the signing of Cooperation Agreements and Implementation Arrangements between PPPBA and study program heads on September 23, 2026. This agenda contributed to strengthening interuniversity networks and cooperation in the development of Arabic language education.
Strengthening Collaboration in Arabic Language Education
The participation of the Arabic Language Education Program at FPBS UPI Bandung in this national and international forum demonstrated the importance of collaboration among study programs in responding to developments in higher education policy and the quality requirements of Arabic language learning.
Through forums such as the PPPBA National Working Meeting and International Conference, Arabic Language Education programs have opportunities to exchange experiences, discuss teaching practices, and formulate joint recommendations for curriculum development and OBE-based RPS.
The three-day event therefore served not only as an academic meeting but also as an opportunity to strengthen interuniversity synergy in improving the quality of Arabic language education in Indonesia.
