History
2007 – Korean Language Courses Started
The UPI Language Center held its first Korean language course, which has continued until today.
2015 – Program Officially Established
Based on UPI Rector Decree No. 5181/UN40/HK/2015 dated August 5, 2015, the Korean Language Education Program was officially opened under FPBS UPI.
2015 – First Student Cohort
A total of 53 students were admitted as the first cohort of the Korean Language Education Program.
2018 – National Accreditation Application
The program applied for national accreditation from BAN-PT as part of formal academic quality recognition.
2019 – Grade B from BAN-PT
The program received a Grade B accreditation based on BAN-PT Decree No. 4598/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/X/2019.
2024 – Excellent Accreditation from LAMDIK
The program received an Excellent accreditation from LAMDIK based on Decree No. 845/SK/LAMDIK/Ak/S/VIII/2024.
Since its inception, the number of applicants for the Korean Language Education Program has steadily increased—from 220 to 1,859 in 2022—while the intake capacity remains at 80 students per year. To date, the program has graduated around 180 alumni working in various sectors such as education, translation, manufacturing, secretarial services, and more. Several alumni have also pursued graduate studies at prestigious universities domestically and abroad. The program actively collaborates with national institutions like AJARI, PELBAKORI, APSKI, King Sejong Institute, and KCCI, as well as international partners including KOICA, Korea Foundation, AKS, Soonchun Hyang University, Sookmyung Women’s University, and Jeju National University.

To become a pioneer in implementing a high-quality Korean language and culture education program with an international quality management system for the period 2021–2025.
Mission
- To provide education focused on Korean language and culture with an internationally standardized quality management system.
- To conduct excellent research in Korean language and culture that is eligible for publication in indexed and/or reputable journals.
- To develop, apply, and utilize knowledge in the field of Korean language and culture through community service.
- To enhance visibility and partnerships with national and international institutions.
Goals

National Accreditation (LAMDIK)
The Korean Language Education Program at FPBS UPI is currently accredited as EXCELLENT based on LAMDIK Decree No. 845/SK/LAMDIK/Ak/S/VIII/2024. International Accreditation (ACQUIN)
Internationally, the Korean Language Education Program at FPBS UPI has been accredited by ACQUIN (Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute), a higher education accreditation agency from Germany. The accreditation is valid until September 30, 2030 based on the certificate issued in Bayreuth on March 10, 2025.
