UPI community service activity to empower elementary school teachers in Tasikmalaya through the digitalization of Sundanese teaching materials

Tasikmalaya, 24 June 2026 - Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), through the Faculty of Language and Literature Education (FPBS), organized a Community Service Program (PKM) entitled “Empowering Elementary School Teachers in Tasikmalaya City through the Digitalization of Local-Wisdom-Based Sundanese Teaching Materials.” The activity took place in Tasikmalaya City and was attended by 80 participants from various groups, consisting of 10 representatives of K3S (the Elementary School Principals’ Working Group), 5 supervisors, 60 elementary school teachers, and 5 representatives from the Tasikmalaya City Education Office.

The activity opened with a presentation by Dr. H. Rojab Riswan Taufik, S.Sos., M.Si., Head of the Tasikmalaya City Education Office, who explained the importance of digitalizing Sundanese teaching materials for elementary school teachers. This was followed by the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) and Alumni Association linkage among UPI, the Tasikmalaya City Education Office, and Universitas Perjuangan Tasikmalaya.

In the next session, three speakers from UPI were present: Prof. Dr. Usep Kuswari, M.Pd., who presented guidance on formative, summative, and diagnostic assessment in Sundanese language learning for elementary and Islamic elementary students based on Gapura Pancawaluya; Dr. Haris Santosa Nugraha, M.Pd., who discussed the preparation of interactive and engaging Sundanese teaching materials; and Prof. Dr. Nunuy Nurjanah, M.Pd., who presented strategies for empowering teachers through the digitalization of teaching materials rooted in local wisdom.

The main afternoon session was focused on direct practice in digitalizing teaching materials through the learningsundanese platform and the MABS application (Materi Ajar Bahasa Sunda), guided by Prof. Dr. Nunuy Nurjanah, M.Pd. for more than three hours.

This activity represents a concrete form of collaboration between higher education institutions and local government in efforts to preserve and develop Sundanese as a local-content subject that remains relevant in the digital era, while also strengthening the pedagogical competence of elementary school teachers in Tasikmalaya City.
